Early Childhood (P-3) Alternative A Master's Program

The Early Childhood Alternative A Program is designed for you if: you want to teach in Pre-K - 3rd Grade and you have a previous degree in an academic discipline other than education. Eligibility for the Alternative-A Program includes a 2.75 GPA in the previously earned undergraduate degree, completion of ED 300, advisement in the Teacher Education Services Center, and satisfaction of any undergraduate deficiencies as required by the ALSDE code. 

  1. Blended approach with face-to-face courses on campus, clinical experiences in local P-3 classrooms, and online courses   
  2. Methods courses include early literacy, reading, and writing
  3. Clinical experiences include settings appropriate to multiple early childhood age ranges: Birth-3, 3-5, 5-8.   
  4. Specialty courses include 21st century teaching and learning, diversity in today's classroom, and issues and trends in early childhood

When you complete the Early Childhood Alternative A Program, you are eligible for an Alabama Teacher Class A Certification in Early Childhood (P-3).
