The Adventure Recreation Program at Jacksonville State University provides opportunities for students to get outside! We lead exciting trips every year that highlight some great outdoor attractions and activities! 

The Adventure Recreation Center is housed in the RFC. The Adventure Recreation Center serves as our storefront for gear rentals and trip registration.  The ARC is open Thursday - Monday from noon - 6pm.

Spring 2020 Trip Series

North Carolina Skiing and Snowboarding Trip

Trip date: 1/17 - 20 Register by: 1/14

Hit the slopes with Adventure Recreation for a weekend in the snowy western North Carolina! This trip is great for beginners and experienced skiers alike. Price includes lodging, ski/snowboard rentals, lift tickets, and evening meals. Patrons will need to bring appropriate skiing attire.

Oak Mountain State Park Day Hike

Spend the day hiking with Adventure Recreation at Oak Mountain State Park while exploring all the beautiful trails Alabama's largest park has to offer. This is an awesome opportunity to capture some beautiful photographs while getting out of Jacksonville and enjoying Alabama's beautiful hardwood forests.

Moss Rock Day Hike

Join Adventure Recreation and explore one of Alabama's hidden gems, Moss Rock Preserve. Moss Rock is home to hiking trails, beautiful boulder fields, and unique waterfalls. We will be enjoying the scenery from the trails as we hike through this amazing preserve.

For even the least of "outdoorsy" people, the imagination of getting away from campus to enjoy a relaxing night in the wilderness can be tempting. Join Adventure Rec as we teach you how to take the first steps when going car camping at nearby Mount Cheaha.

North Georgia Climbing Adventure

Come climb over Winter Break with Adventure Recreation! We will climb in some of the most beautiful areas the South has to offer. We will explore the first day on top of Pigeon Mountain top rope climbing on the Lost Wall and will then camp at the near by Rocktown boulder fields. In the morning, we will change our style and boulder on one of the most popular bouldering areas in the country before heading back to campus.

Mountain Biking Day Trip

Join Adventure Rec as we explore the awesome and beginner friendly trails at Fort McClellan. The newly built NICA trails offer a fast and fun experience to those who want to be introduced to mountain biking or are experienced and would like to enjoy the fats and flowy nature of the trails. Bikes and helmet are included. Patrons must bring closed toed shoes, water bottle, and a sack lunch. No experience necessary.

Bartram Trail Canoeing

Come experience the nation's second largest river delta by canoe! We will spend two nights paddling through Alabama's wild and scenic Bartram canoe trail.

Women in Wilderness: Little River Canyon Day Hike

The Women in Wilderness series is a series of trips, clinics, and climbing events that are for female participants led by the female leaders of Adventure Rec. This is a brand new series Adventure Rec will be hosting each semester and this trip will be the initial launch of this program. The trip will be a day hike through canyon trails.

Spring Break Trip: Appalachian Trail Backpacking

Join Adventure Recreation during Spring Break for a trip to the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina. Completed in 1937, the worlds longest "hiking only" trail annually gets visits from 2 million people attempting to hike the entire trail in one single trip, also known as a "thru hike". This trail is known for its extensive ecology and vast views along the Appalachian Mountains. We will be backpacking through the Nantahala National Forest sections of the trail and explore the natural wonders of the "AT". 

Stone Fort Bouldering Trip

Join Adventure Rec as we go bouldering at one of the most popular places to climb in the entire East. Located just minutes outside of downtown Chattanooga, TN, Stone Fort offers something for every climber, beginner and advanced alike. 

Adventure Photography Trip

Enjoy a fun and rewarding hike through Alabama's, Little River Canyon.  While we get to explore this unique area, professional photographers will teach us the ins and outs of photographing nature and then we'll get to put our skills to the test!  No experience necessary and all equipment is provided! 

Ocoee River Rafting Trip

Join JSU Adventure Rec on a whitewater river adventure!  The Ocoee River is situated in east Tennessee's beautiful Cherokee National Forest and is home to one of the nation's most iconic and storied whitewater rivers.  Experience beautiful scenery while riding Class III-V rapids and making new friends along the way.  No experience necessary!
