Television Services has a long history of providing promotional videos and commercials for the university and its various programs. Though full-time staff have been the primary crew for the majority of the production work, we also provide production opportunities to Communication students. Located in Self Hall, Television Services currently lends both technical and video production support to numerous areas at JSU. Those areas include the Department of Communication, Distance Education, WJXS-TV24, WLJS-FM 92J and the JSU Sports Network.
The Department of Communication is also housed in Self Hall and shares facilities with Television Services and TV24. Television Services provides instructional and technical support to faculty and students, as well as coordination and engineering support of shared facilities and resources.
Distance Education is one of JSU's most powerful tools to make higher education available to the masses. Television Services provided engineering support and assistance during the developmental stages of JSU's distance education program. While recent technological advances have made distance education even more widely available and the department has become self sufficient, Television Services maintains a cooperative working relationship with the Office of Distance Education.
WJXS-TV24 is a local television station that uses the university's studio facilities located in Self Hall. TV24 provides programming related to JSU Sports, news, and events. TV24 is affiliated with CNN and Family Net, and provides an outlet for network news and entertainment programming, in addition to JSU and other local programming. TV24 can be viewed on numerous cable stations throughout central Alabama and western Georgia. Locally, they can be seen on channel 9 on the Anniston area Cable One cable network. They can also be received over UHF channel 24. Television Services provides technical and operational support to TV24, as well as coordination and engineering support of shared facilities and resources.
Television Services also provides support to WLJS-FM 92J, the campus radio station, as well as the JSU Sports Network.
The staff of Television Services is strongly committed to providing production services and technical and engineering support to Jacksonville State University. Television Services serves both the academic and non-academic departments of JSU.
