Lynn Garner

Lynn serves as the Associate Director of the office. In this role, she helps faculty, staff, and administration with the submission of grants to federal and state funders and private foundations. After a prosperous career in government contracting supporting the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense, Lynn began working at JSU in 2010. She enjoys helping JSU faculty and finding grants that support their research interests. Most recently, she led the application to support the Childcare Access Means Parents in Schools grant which resulted in a $1.5 million award from the U.S. Department of Education.

Lynn is enrolled in her third year of the Global Leadership Ph.D. program at Troy University. Her research interest focuses on how women leaders in academia can use emotional intelligence to gain trust and build connections with their direct reports. She presented a paper on this topic at the 25th International Leadership Association conference in October 2023 in Vancouver, Canada.
Lynn’s favorite part of the job is conducting popup events and training sessions for faculty, staff, and administration to learn more about the grants process at JSU. Throughout Lynn’s career, she has worked with the team to consistently increase the number of funded grants on campus. Over $3.5 million in funding was secured in 2023.
