Sergeant First Class James G. Clanton entered the United States Army in June of 1991.  He has served in numerous duty positions including Team Leader, Squad Leader, Recruiter, Platoon Sergeant, Instructor, and Brigade Operations Sergeant.  SFC Clanton’s assignments include 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams of the 25th Infantry Division, 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams (Heavy) of the 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade 101st ABN Division (Air Assault), and the United States Army Infantry Center and School.

SFC Clanton served two tours in the Middle Eastern theater of operations, and two tours in the Republic of Korea.  He has been in Light Infantry, Mechanized Infantry, and Stryker Infantry units.

SFC Clanton’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (Nine Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Achievement Medal ( Two Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Good Conduct Medal (Two Silver Knots);  National Defense Service Medal (One Bronze Service Star); Korea Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal (Two Bronze Service Stars); Global War on Terror Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon ( Numeral  3); Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral  5); Multi National Force and Observers Medal; Valorous Unit Award; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Army Superior Unit Award (One Oak Leaf Cluster); Combat Infantryman Badge; Expert Infantryman Badge; Air Assault Badge, and the Gold Army Recruiter Badge.
