Facility Policies

Stephenson Hall General Policies

  1. Current JSU students, faculty, staff, and dependents are eligible to use the facility when presenting a valid University ID
  2. Current JSU students, faculty, and staff are permitted five guest passes per semester. Dependents are not allowed to have guests. Guest passes must be obtained 24 hours in advance. Guest passes can be obtained in room 215 of Stephenson Hall during regular office hours.
  3. Food and drink are permitted only in designated areas unless noted otherwise. Tobacco is prohibited throughout the facility.
  4. Proper attire is required for using the facility. Shorts and pants must be worn properly.
  5. The Recreational Sports staff is not responsible for personal items. Please do not leave valuables unattended.

Tom Roberson Gymnasium

  1. Proper attire is required.
  2. Non-marking, athletic footwear is required.
  3. Dunking, slapping backboards, and hanging on nets/rims are prohibited. Violators will be suspended from the facility.
  4. Scheduled activities (i.e. Physical Education classes, Intramurals, and Fitness classes) will be given priority in the gym area.
  5. Set up of equipment will be handled by Recreational Sports staff. Please ask for assistance.
  6. Food and tobacco are prohibited in gym area. Water - in clear, unbreakable containers - is permitted.
  7. Individual listening devices (i.e. iPods, radios, or cell phones) must have headphones.

Racquetball Courts

  1. Non-marking athletic shoes are required.
  2. Food and drinks are prohibited in this area. Water - in clear, unbreakable containers - is allowed in the area outside the courts.
  3. During high-volume time periods, reservations are recommended.
  4. Courts are for racquetball use only. Any other uses must be approved by the Recreational Sports staff.
  5. Tennis racquets are prohibited in the racquetball courts.
  6. Scheduled activities such as Physical Education classes and Intramural tournaments will be given priority.

Cardio Rooms

  1. Proper athletic shoes are required. No open toe shoes or sandals are permitted.
  2. Children under the age of 16 are prohibited from the cardio room.
  3. Machines are restricted to 30 minutes use at one time. You must stop and change machines to continue past 30 minutes.
  4. Food and drinks are prohibited in cardio room. Water - in clear, unbreakable containers - is permitted.
  5. Individual listening devices must have headphones.
  6. Televisions are for your enjoyment. Please be considerate when adjusting the volume and channels.
  7. This is an exercise area. Please do not loiter.

Weight Rooms

  1. Proper athletic shoes are required. No open toe shoes or sandals are permitted.
  2. Proper clothing is required. Tank tops or cutoff shirts are prohibited.
  3. No one under age 16 is permitted in Weight Rooms.
  4. Users not familiar with the operation of weight equipment should seek assistance from our staff.
  5. Do not abuse equipment or machines. Slamming or dropping weights will not be tolerated. Violators will be suspended from the facility.
  6. Please do not stack any weights or bars against the walls.
  7. Please re-stack all weights after use, and remove weights from bars.
  8. Please use machines and weights for their intended purpose.
  9. During heavy use times, machines are limited to one set of 12-15 repetitions. Please be courteous and allow others to use the equipment.
  10. Please report any damaged machines or equipment to the staff.
  11. Individual listening devices must have headphones.
  12. Gym bags are prohibited in the weight room.
  13. It is recommended that a spotter or helper be used while working out in the Free Weight area.
  14. Collars are recommended when using free weights.
  15. This is an exercise area. Please do not loiter.
  16. Always consult with a physician prior to starting an exercise program.
  17. The weight rooms are not continuously staffed. PLEASE EXERCISE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Locker Rooms

  1. Locker rooms are divided into four separate areas. Male/Female student and Male/Female staff. Please use the appropriate locker room.
  2. Daily lockers are available by checking out locker keys at the front ID booth.  Semester lockers are available by checking out a key from the Recreational Sports Department in Room 215 during regular office hours. You will be charged for any lost locker keys.
  3. Cell phones are prohibited in locker rooms.
  4. Proper attire is required for steam room use.
  5. Shower shoes or sandals are recommended in locker rooms.
  6. Food and tobacco products are prohibited in locker rooms. Water - in clear unbreakable containers - is allowed.

Assumption of Risk

Participation at/in all University Recreation properties is completely voluntary.  There are inherent risks associated with participation and/or spectating in athletic and fitness-related activities. Individuals specifically assume all risk of injuries, damages or other losses while using any University equipment or facilities, and/or while participating in any program, exercise, or activity associated with Jacksonville State University
