A bomb or incendiary device can take almost any form and can be triggered in a wide variety of ways. Therefore, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a suspicious object be touched or removed. People should be removed from the bomb, not vice versa.
  • If a suspicious object or potential bomb is discovered on campus, DO NOT HANDLE THE OBJECT. CLEAR THE AREA and call the JSU Police Department at ext. 6000 or 256-782-6000.
  • Be sure to include the location and appearance of the object when reporting.
  • All suspicious packages and bomb threats must be treated as a serious matter. To ensure the safety of the campus population, all suspicious packages and bomb threats will be considered real until proven otherwise. However, building evacuation is not a decision for anyone to make except for proper authorities.
  • If evacuation is chosen, an announcement will be made in each area and occupants will be asked to proceed to the nearest exit, taking their personal belongings with them. If groups of people need to be relocated temporarily, the Incident Commander will establish a campus assembly point.
