About Phi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's
oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline academic honor society. It was founded by a group of ten students in
1897 at the
Membership in the society is by invitation only based on high standards of academic excellence and integrity of character. Each year, the JSU chapter extends membership invitations to outstanding juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni, and to faculty members and administrators who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Phi Kappa Phi's motto is Philosophía Krateítõ Phõtôn, translated from the Greek: "Let the love of learning rule humanity." Its mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others". Phi Kappa Phi backs up these ideals with the biggest awards program of any academic honor society: over $500,000 annually in national and local scholarships and awards for which JSU student and faculty members are eligible to apply.
Phi Kappa Phi publishes a quarterly journal, Phi Kappa Phi Forum, each issue of which centers around a scholarly exploration of a topic of current interdisciplinary interest, as well as newsletters for active members and officers of the society.
The JSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi will serve as a catalyst for the interaction of outstanding JSU students, alumni, faculty, staff, and administrators who share the values and goals of the society. More information about Phi Kappa Phi is available on its national web site: http://www.phikappaphi.org.
