Blackboard - Default Course Shell

All JSU courses have a Blackboard section (course shell) automatically created. Instructors will find associated Bb course shells linked on the Blackboard home page. For more information regarding Blackboard, login, and Blackboard tutorials, see Blackboard Information.

Each Bb course shell is created using a default look and organization called the Bb Default Course Shell. This default look and organization allows students to become familiar with Blackboard and build expectations regarding using and navigating courses which use Blackboard. In special cases where the default course shell does not fit specific needs of a course or instructor's teaching style, the default shell may be edited. When choosing to edit the default course shell, consider the impact the changes may have on student familiarity with Blackboard courses.

Default Course Shell Overview

The default course shell features menu items which are optimized for student and faculty efficiency and work flow. Faculty and student views are somewhat different. To see student view, use the Student Preview Tool from within your new course shell.

Start Here

Upon entering a Blackboard course, students do not always know what to do first. The Start Here link directs them to important course information such as the syllabus, course schedule, policies, and whatever else you think they should read at the start of the course.
