Collegiate Learning Assessment
The CLA is a series of tasks that measure students' critical thinking, analytic reasoning, problem solving, and written communication abilities. This direct assessment tool is comprised of three types of prompts within two types of task: the Performance Task and the Analytic Writing Task. Participating students take one task or the other. The Analytic Writing Task includes a pair of prompts called "Make-an-Argument" and "Critique-an-Argument." To learn more about it, please click here. It is administered to 100 randomly-selected, first-year students in the fall, and to 100 seniors in the spring in lieu of the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (CBASE) as a graduation requirement.
