The Lurleen B. Wallace College of Nursing and Health Sciences supports the concept of career mobility for individuals holding an associate degree or diploma in nursing. The faculty have developed a quality, flexible, cost-effective, and convenient means for registered nurses to obtain the B.S.N. Degree. Strategic Teaching for Enhanced Professional Preparation (STEP) enables students to achieve their educational goals while fulfilling their personal and occupational responsibilities.
The STEP Program
The STEP (Strategic Teaching for Enhanced Professional Preparation) program is an online baccalaureate completion program for students currently licensed as Registered Nurses. STEP courses are made available through the use of Internet and clinical projects. The nursing sequence can be completed in one year of study once all prerequisite and general studies course requirements are completed.
Admissions Requirements/Procedure
Students are admitted into Jacksonville State University through the University Admissions Office. Applications may be secured and filed with this office. In addition, official transcripts of previous course work should be sent to the Admission's Office, Jacksonville State University, 700 Pelham Road North, Jacksonville, Alabama, 36265-1602. Entrance into the upper division of nursing requires that the student has
- Been admitted to Jacksonville State University with all current transcripts on file
- Unencumbered current registered nurse license in the United States
- Minimum 2.5 GPA on prerequisite courses
- Completion of all prerequisite and general studies coursework with a "C" or better
- Evidence of successful completion of an United States accredited diploma or associate degree nursing program
Deadline for Admission to the STEP program:
- Fall Semester- Deadline is August 1st
- Spring Semester- Deadline is December 1st
- Summer Semester- Deadline is April 1st
