Choccolocco Economic Activity Zone Expo

 

The Jacksonville State University Center for Economic Development (CED) will host the 2^nd Choccolocco Economic Activity Zone (CEAZ) Exposition at the Anniston City Meeting Center on Thursday, September 11, 2008.  The Exposition will be from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 pm and will feature Ms. Linda Swann, Assistant Director of the Alabama Development Office, as the luncheon speaker.  Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and participation is by invitation only.

 

Throughout the day JSU faculty members will be providing area officials with a wide variety of economic, demographic, and other updated information gathered by CED personnel about the three-county area comprising the CEAZ (Calhoun, Cleburne, and Talladega counties).  Also, Mr. Gerald Dial, Executive Director of the Alabama Rural Action Commission, will present an overview of Governor Riley’s Rural Alabama Initiative (RAI).   This event promises to be a very informative meeting on the present economic conditions and economic growth prospectus for the CEAZ.

 

The Choccolocco Economic Activity Zone was initiated in 2005 to promote area wide economic development through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data from the tri-county area.   The three counties are interrelated in many ways due to the vast economic activity along I-20 from the Coosa River to the Georgia State line.   As growth continued, limitations of current data became more pronounced as public officials and academic researchers sought relevant statistics, which now the CEAZ can provide.

 

The CEAZ is monitored by the CED, which is given direction, advice, and support by a board of directors made up of area officials from government, economic development, business, and others in leadership roles within the three counties.
