Dr. Francia Brings National Recognition to JSU

The National Academy of Sciences recently approved the nomination of Dr. Guillermo Francia to serve on a panel of three reviewers for the Fulbright Scholar Awards in computer science.

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars nominated Dr. Francia to serve as a committee member for three years.  Peer review guidelines mandate that reviews begin in mid-August with reviewers having approximately two weeks to evaluate the technical merits of the Fulbright applicants.  Kristin Putz, Program Officer of CIES, wrote in her notification to Dr. Francia:

We ask U.S. scholars and professionals who have distinguished themselves in their fields to become members of our review committees.  As experts within their disciplines, these committee members evaluate applications and recommend candidates for further consideration by binational Fulbright commissions and United States Department of State representatives in more than one hundred countries around the world.  Final selection of candidates is then made by the presidentially appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.”

The Fulbright Scholar program is a distinguished program of international reputation.  Dr. Francia’s selection brings honor and recognition not only to himself, but to Jacksonville State as well.
