Gamecock Soccer to Host Mexican National Team

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State head soccer coach Julie Davis has announced a partnership with the Alabama Youth Soccer Organization that will bring the U20 Mexican Women’s National Team to the JSU campus for an exhibition match on August 13 at 7 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.

The exhibition will serve as an unofficial kickoff to the 2008 season for JSU and be the first of 12 home games for the Gamecocks this upcoming season. Admission to the game will be $14 on the day of the game, but advance tickets may be purchased at the JSU Soccer Office in Pete Mathews Coliseum for $10. Fans can also purchase tickets through the AYSO at Alabamayouthsoccer.org

This is a great opportunity for our squad to play a first-class team. We will get a chance to look at the maturity lever of our returning players and test our newcomers’ potential,” Davis said. “This could arguably be one of the best soccer teams we’ll play all year. We are grateful to AYSO and Mexico for allowing us such a fantastic opportunity.”

For the Mexican National Team, the trip to the state of Alabama will also include exhibitions with Belmont and UAB. The team will be in the state as their final preparation before traveling to the Under 20 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand later this fall.

The match will mark the first time that an international squad will visit the JSU campus in soccer.
