Dr. Francia Chairs NSF Review Panel

Dr Guillermo A. Francia, III, professor of computer science at JSU, served as the chairperson of a proposal review panel for the National Science Foundation’s Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program-Phase 1 (Exploratory Projects) competition on July 9-11, 2008 in Washington, D.C.

The CCLI program’s objective is to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for all undergraduate students. It focuses on efforts that are geared toward one or more of the following activities: creating new learning materials and teaching strategies, implementing education innovations, developing faculty expertise, and conducting research on STEM teaching and learning, and assessing learning.

The program does not require matching funds from the host institution and is an excellent venue for enhancing the educational experiences of undergraduates in institutions such as JSU, whose primary focus is teaching.
