Jacksonville State University fully supports the First Amendment rights of its faculty, staff and students consistent with the requirements of law; however, the use of your account must be consistent with the educational and business objectives of Jacksonville State University. Use of any other organization's networks or computing resources must comply with the rules appropriate for that network. Transmission of any material in violation of any state, federal, or international statute, and or a violation of copyright or intellectual property rights laws is prohibited. Use for non-institutional related commercial activities or political lobbying is, likewise, prohibited.
  2. JSUNet and other IT resources are for the use of all account holders and the University, therefore, reserves the right to delete files or close the account of any user who is deemed to be using inordinately large amounts of storage space or whose actions otherwise limit the use of computing resources. The system administrators will deem what is inappropriate use and their decision is final. The administration, faculty, and staff of Jacksonville State University may request the system administrator to deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts for good cause stated.
  3. Adequate network security is a tantamount objective if the University, but cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, all users must be both circumspect and diligent in safeguarding private and confidential information. Do not reveal your personal address or phone number or those of faculty, staff, students or colleagues. Note that electronic mail (email) is not guaranteed to be private, and is particularly vulnerable once it enters the Internet. You should report any suspicious computer activity immediately.
  4. All data on the JSUNet system is the property of JSU. People who operate the system routinely have access to all mail. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities may be reported to the authorities. Sending unsolicited email messages, including the sending of "junk mail" or other advertising material to individuals who did not specifically request such material is prohibited and may cause an account to be blocked.
  5. Jacksonville State University makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing. Jacksonville State University will not be responsible for any damages you suffer. This includes loss of data resulting from delays, nondeliveries, misdeliveries, or service interruptions caused by negligence, errors, or omissions. Use of any information obtained via JSUNet is at your own risk. Jacksonville State University specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services and not provided directly by the institution.
  6. Attempts to login to the system as any other user or as a system administrator will result in cancellation of your account. Any user identified as a security risk or having a history of problems with other computer systems may be denied service.
  7. JSU reserves the right to make your email address publicly available.
  8. Vandalism will result in cancellation of service. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy the data of another user, JSUNet, or other networks that are connected to JSUNet, or the Internet backbone. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses.
  9. JSU reserves the right to respond to court subpoenas, warrants and other legal requests for information or data stored on the JSU IT system without prior notice to the account holder.
  10. JSUNet may occasionally require new registration and account information from you to continue the service. Notify JSUNet of any changes in your account information (address, phone, etc.). Currently, there are no user fees for this service.
  11. All terms and conditions as stated in this document are applicable to the use of Jacksonville State University’s IT Services, JSUNet, and NSFNET by registered users and guests, and use shall constitute an agreement by the user to abide by the terms and conditions of use. These terms supersede any prior terms or conditions of use and may be altered, amended or supplemented, which changes shall be effective upon posting to http://www.jsu.edu/it/policies/usage-policy.html.
  12. To the extent not preempted by international treaty or the laws of the United States, the relationship between Jacksonville State University and a user of the IT services of the University, and any rights or obligations, or agreements, expressed or implied, or claims arising from the same, shall be governed by the laws of the State of Alabama without regard to conflicts of laws principles with personal jurisdiction and venue residing exclusively in the state or federal courts of Alabama as appropriate.
