Professional Staff Members

Director of University Housing and Residence Life

Kevin Hoult is the Director of University Housing and Residence Life, and is responsible for the overall operations of University Housing and Residence Life.
Assistant Director, University Housing and Residence Life - Staff Development and Community Standards (AD)


Rochelle Smith is the Assistant Director of Staff Development and Community Standards, and is responsible for residence life staff and the judicial program within university housing.

Assistant Director, University Housing and Residence Life - Student Development and Educational Programming (AD)


Brooke Lyon is the Assistant Director of Student Development and Educational Programming, and is responsible for developing and maintaining learning communities and programming within residence halls and on-campus apartments.

Secretary III


Carrie Hightower is the secretary and office administrator of the Department of University Housing and Residence Life. The secretary directly assists the director and is the initial contact person for the department.

Assignments Clerical Assistant


Gayla Allison is the Assignments Clerical Assistant, and she is responsible for the assignment of students to housing and coordination of all housing contract processes.

Charges Clerical Assistant


Amie Knight is the Charges Clerical Assistant and is responsible for the billing of rent, deposits, damage charges, key/lock charges, and any other collection of funding processes.

Clerical Assistant

Charlotte Homesley is the first face that will greet you in the Department of University Housing and Residence Life. She is responsible for answering phones, as well as helping parents and students when they come in the office.

Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)


The RLCs are full-time professional staff members that live within the residence halls and the apartment area. They supervise student staff and maintain an environment conducive to learning, growth, and development. The Department of University Housing and Residence Life currently has six Residence Life Coordinators:

Student Staff




Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC)
The ARLCs are graduate students who assist in the administration and are the primary supervisor for all day and night time desk assistants employed with University Housing and Residence Life.

Graduate Assistant (GA)
The graduate assistants are full time graduate students that are responsible for assisting in the administration of the Department of University Housing and Residence Life.


Resident Assistant (RA)
RAs are full-time students that reside in the residence halls and apartment areas. Resident Assistants serve as a resource, explain and enforce University Housing and Residence Life policies, respond to emergency situations, sponsor social and educational programs, and promote the growth of a positive learning community on the floor or area and in the building. *Must have 2.25 GPA and 32 completed credit hours.*

Day Desk Assistant (DDA)
The DDA is a housing staff member responsible for covering shifts at the main desk of each residence hall or apartment area office. *Must qualify for federal work study program.*

Night Desk Assistant (NDA)
NDAs serve as an added security measure to ensure a safe living environment in our halls and apartments The NDA responsibilities include making sure all exterior doors are closed and locked, and monitoring residence hall entrances.

Student Workers on Assigned Tasks (S.W.A.T.)
Student Workers on Assigned Tasks (S.W.A.T.) are a valuable part of the University Housing and Residence Life team here at Jacksonville State University. S.W.A.T. is responsible for ensuring that any duties assigned to them are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Some examples of S.W.A.T responsibilities include working outdoors in all weather conditions; picking up debris on campus grounds; watering plants; blowing debris with a leaf blower; moving furniture to areas around campus, cleaning apartments, offices, etc.
