You will be living in a community environment, meaning you will be sharing space with many other students living in the residence halls and apartments. Some residence halls and apartments are co-ed, housing both men and women on designated floors or wings. These buildings are designed to develop community with shared hallways, bathrooms, and study lounges. All of our freshman residence halls are for females only or males only. Each community has about 30 residents per floor with one or two Resident Assistants (RA) on each floor.

You will have a remarkable opportunity to meet and get to know students from a variety of different backgrounds. Please take advantage of this opportunity to introduce yourself and start developing relationships with other students.

Each residence hall has one computer lab with at least two computers for residents to utilize. There are other computer labs throughout campus for students. Information on the locations and availability can be found here: JSU COMPUTER LABS

Each residence hall has a centrally located front desk. Front desks operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Here you can find important services for residents living in the residence halls.

You will need to go to the front desk to:

• Check in visitors.

• Submit overnight guest forms.

• Report incidents that occur in the halls.

• Ask any questions about the residence halls or JSU.

Stephenson Hall and Pete Matthews Coliseum are available to students and offer services such as: Cybex weight room, cardio room, racquetball courts, steam rooms, and the indoor pool located at the coliseum. Services are free and your JSU student ID card is required for entrance. Stadium Tower has several work-out rooms available for residents living in the building. Stadium Tower and other residence halls have several work-out rooms available for residents living in the buildings.

Study lounges are located in each residence hall and provide an opportunity for residents to study at any time in a quieter environment.

Residence hall doors are locked at all times. Door access is controlled by using card reader systems on exterior entrances. Residents will use their JSU student ID card and a four-digit PIN number to gain access. All residence hall common areas and parking lots are monitored by video cameras. Personal safety is ultimately your responsibility. Educate yourself about self-defense, crime prevention, and emergency protocols on campus.
