Renew your Housing

Application Process

Current Jax State students living on campus who want to live on campus again next year must participate in the Reapplication Process starting March 1.

Learn more below about each phase of Reapplication.

Renewal Phases

Phase One - Online Housing Application/Lease Agreement Submission

Opens Friday, March 1, 12:00 p.m. | Closes Sunday, March 10, 11:59 p.m.

This is the MOST IMPORTANT STEP that must be completed if you want to live on campus next year.

The application will close on Sunday, March 10, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Your application submission date determines your priority selection time on your specific date. If you do not submit your application by March 10, you will not be able to apply until March 16, 2024.

Phase Two - Current Room Reselection (Squatters)

Monday, March 11, 12:00 p.m. - 11:59 p.m.

Love your room? Keep your room! Note, this is the ONLY day to reselect your room if you want to keep it! You can either squat or select a new room, but you can only do one; not both.

Eligible residents:

  • Campus Inn Efficiency
  • Campus Inn One Bedroom
  • College (unfurnished)
  • Colonial Arms
  • Daugette
  • Jax
  • Logan
  • Meehan
  • Mountain Street/Goodlett Avenue

  • Sparkman
  • Certain residents of Logan, Meehan, and Patterson Halls may not be able to squat for their assignment due to being assigned in an athletic or disability designated space. Residents of the 2nd and 3rd floors of Sparkman Hall are not eligible to squat because these spaces are reserved for Living-Learning Community residents. Contact Jax State Housing for more information.

Phase Three - Roommate Selection

Tuesday, March 12, 12:00 p.m. (noon) - 11:59 p.m.

Select your roommate (if applicable). Ignore this phase if you do not have a roommate request.

Phase Displaced - Displaced Resident Room Selection

Wednesday, March 13, 12:00 p.m. (noon) - 11:59 p.m.

Residents of The Pointe @ JSU are displaced for fall 2024 as The Pointe @ JSU lease ends on July 31, 2024. Long Leaf Lodge and Salls Halls residents are also displaced as these options will not be available for room selection. These residents will have their own day to select an assignment for fall 2024 - spring 2025.

By 12:00 p.m. on March 12, you will be given a selection time based on your Current Resident Reapplication submission date and time.

Phase Four - Upper-Class Room Change

Thursday, March 14, 12:00 p.m. (noon) - 11:59 p.m.

Upper-class students who did not reselect their current assignments will be able to select a new assignment.

By 12:00 p.m. on March 12, you will be given a selection time based on your Current Resident Reapplication submission date and time.

Phase Five - Rising Sophomore/Second-Year Student Selection

Friday, March 15, 12:00 p.m. (noon) - 11:59 p.m.

Current first-year students living in Crow, Curtiss, Dixon, and Fitzpatrick who want to continue living on campus will be able to select from available assignments.

By 12:00 p.m. on March 12, you will be given a selection time based on your Current Resident Reapplication submission date and time.

Phase Six - Housing Queue Submission

Saturday, March 16, 12:00 p.m. - Sunday, March 31, 2024, 11:59 p.m.

Forgot to apply? Didn't get to select a room? Add yourself to the Housing Queue for an assignment.

The Housing Queue will close on March 31, 11:59 p.m. If you do not have an assignment and do not add yourself to the Queue, your application will be cancelled on April 1, 2024. You will also need to revisit your application to add your living requests so HRL Operations Specialists will have more information on where to assign you.

Residents must be preregistered for fall 2024 by May 1, 2024, to confirm their housing assignment. If a resident is not registered for fall classes, their application and/or assignment will be voided and given to the next student in line for an assignment.

Room Selection:

During the week of March 11-15, residents will have designated dates and times to reapply for housing. Room selection will be open each day from 12:00 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. More information about your specific date for room selection will be available in January 2024.

If you have additional questions, please contact the Office of Housing Operations and Residence Life at jsuhousing@jsu.edu.

Please note: The Pointe @ JSU is not a Jacksonville State University owned property and the five-year lease is ending in July 2024. More information is coming soon about a new opportunity for students.

*Lease rates subject to change pending Board of Trustees approval.

Reapplication FAQ

Yes, the date and time you submit your application matters. If you are not reselecting (squatting) your same assignment, you will choose a room on either March 13 (Phase Displaced) March 14 (Phase Four) or March 15 (Phase Five). Your application submission date determines your selection time, so the earlier you apply, the earlier you will select a room. The application will close on March 10 and will not reopen until March 16.

No, in the past students could squat to be safe and then change their room assignment later. With our new system, you can only do one or the other, but not both. You can squat or reselect your same assignment on March 11 (Phase Two) or look for a new assignment on March 14 (Phase Four). We recommend you weigh the risks carefully.

When one matched roommate selects a room, the other matched roommate is automatically assigned. To have the best opportunity to select the desired location, the roommate with the earliest selection date and time should log in and select a room. More information about roommate selection can be found on the Phase Three website

By 12:00 p.m. on March 12, you will be given a selection time based on your Current Resident Reapplication submission date. You will be able to see this time on THD Self Service. We will email you once your selection time has been posted.

It is for one of three reasons: 1. There are no rooms left to select, 2. You are not eligible to live in that space, or 3. There are no spaces available that will accommodate your roommate grouping (dropping one or more of your roommates will potentially offer more spaces). Also, you are not able to choose a room if your designated time has not yet arrived.

If you were unable to select a room during the reapplication process this week, don't panic. This does not mean you will not have housing. Here are the next steps for you to complete.

  1. The Current Resident Reapplication will reopen at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.
  2. Be sure to edit your application to add any roommate requests or living requests, such as Meehan Hall, Sparkman Hall, etc. You can add up to five living requests and up to three roommate requests.
  3. Our Housing Queue (https://www.jsu.edu/housing/applynow/phase-six.html) opens at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 and will stay open until 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2024. Be sure to add a comment about what type of housing you prefer, example: I prefer a one-bedroom apartment. Be as descriptive as possible.

The cancellation request opens on April 1, and we will receive cancellations from now until classes begin, so make sure you keep in touch. Please just stay patient with us throughout this process, and remember, this is just the beginning. We will work diligently from now until the end of summer to place students. 25% of our total applications typically cancel each year. We are truly in the early stages of the assignments process.

In addition, residents must be preregistered for fall 2024 by May 1, 2024, to confirm their housing assignment. If a resident is not registered for fall classes, their application and/or assignment will be voided and given to the next student in line for an assignment. We have several confirmation steps along the way that students must complete to keep their assignments. Once an assignment is voided, it is reassigned to the next student in the Housing Queue. Housing Queue positions will be recalculated based on the Current Resident Reapplication submission date. Be sure to check back often on THD Self Service for your updated position. You will receive an email once you are assigned and you may view your assignment and/or roommates (if applicable) on THD Self Service.

We know this is a lot of information, but we wanted to give you an update on where things stand. Please contact us at jsuhousing@jsu.edu for more information.
