Applicants, including all graduates of international institutions, who hold degrees from unaccredited institutions, must submit to the College of Graduate Studies, Jacksonville State University, 700 Pelham Road North, Jacksonville, Alabama 36265-1602, all of the following documentation to be considered for admission.  Additional admission criteria can be found in each individual program section of this Bulletin.  Federal financial aid is not available to international students.

  1. Completed JSU Graduate Application for Admission (http://www.jsu.edu/graduate/grad_app.html)
  2. Non-refundable U.S. $30.00 application processing fee
  3. Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended. These official transcript(s) must be accompanied by English translation(s) and an Evaluation of Foreign Education Credentials (course by course evaluation) prepared by an evaluator acceptable to Jacksonville State University. A list of these evaluators is included in the section on International Student Applicants.
  4. “International Student Financial Statement.”  International students must complete the “International Student Financial Statement,” showing adequate financial resources are available to attend the university.  This form is available in the office of the College of Graduate Studies or online at http://www.jsu.edu/graduate/gradfinance.html.
  5. Official GMAT, GRE or MAT test scores
  6. Three “Graduate Reference Forms” completed by individuals who can provide qualitative assessment of applicant’s potential for success in graduate course work.

If English is not the applicant’s native language, the applicant is required to submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scorereport or an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score report or the Pearson Test of English PTE. 

A minimum score of 500 on the paper-based TOEFL, 173 on the computer-based TOEFL, or 61 on the internet-based TOEFL is required for admission. A minimum score of 5.5 on the IELTS is required for admission. A minimum score of 45 on the PTE is required for admission. 

The TOEFL, IELTS, or the PTE are not required for international students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from a United States regionally accredited institution.


Program Requirements

A total score on the verbal and quantitative measures of the General Test of the GRE equal to or greater than 900 points or an MAT score equal to or greater than 40 points.


Applying for admission to the Master of Business Administration (MBA)?

You need submit GMAT scores (minimum score of 400 on GMAT) and meet unconditional admission requirements.


Applying for admission to the Master of Public Administration (MPA)?

You need to submit GMAT,  GRE, or MAT scores and meet unconditional admission requirements.


Applying for admission to the Master of Science (MS) with a major in Computer Systems and Software Design

You need to submit GRE or GMAT scores and meet unconditional admission requirements.  


Applying for admission to the Master of Science (MS) with a major in Emergency Management

You need to sumbit GRE or MAT scores and meet unconditional admission requirements.


Applying for admission to the Master of Science (MS) with a major in Manufacturing Systems Technology

You need to submit GMAT, GRE, or MAT scores and meet unconditional admission requirements.


Applying for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)?

You need to submit GRE or MAT scores and meet unconditional admission requirements.
