DUTIES:
Serving as a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Center for Excellence under the supervision of the Coordinator, Tutoring Services. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for the following for an authoritative figure in the ACE Center after hours; answering phones and slight clerical duties; some tutoring possible; an academic mentor for at-risk students; monitoring of the Study Hall facility after hours; checking students in an out for tutoring and study hall; heavy usage of ACE's student monitoring computer system (GradesFirst); assist in scheduling tutorial appointments; assist with tutor training, including conducting observations; and other associated and clerical duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must agree to enroll in a JSU graduate program (taking at least six (6) graduate semester hours and must maintain good standing)
Applicants must possess the ability to communicate effectively in English
Applicants must demonstrate both the willingness and ability to work cooperatively with staff and students; multicultural exposure is preferred
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in the kinds of duties required for this position
Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated relevant administrative and computer skills
COMPENSATION:
$520 per month (20 hours per week) plus tuition for six graduate semester hours per fall and spring semesters and a total of six graduate semester hours during the summer terms.
