The 2012 - 2013 Scholarship application period ended on March 1, 2012.

The new Scholarship application period will reopen October 1, 2012 through March 1, 2013.

After you have submitted your online application, please monitor your JSU GEM email account for scholarship messages from our office. These messages will only be sent to your JSU GEM account. You can log on to your account by selecting this link: JSU and then select the GEM tab at the top of the screen. Your logon information is listed on your JSU Admissions letter.

Academic Scholar scholarships are automatically given consideration to entering freshman based on receipt of official ACT/SAT test scores. Awarding of academic scholarships is contingent upon receipt of ACT/SAT test scores, completion of an admission application and unconditional acceptance.

Most scholarships are based on the applicant's academic or extracurricular record, while some are based on demonstrated financial need. Students must complete a scholarship application to be considered for those scholarships listed on the University Scholarship listing. Those requesting scholarships based on need should also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The quickest way to apply is online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

March 1, 2013, is the absolute deadline to apply for 2013 - 2014 scholarships and you must be admitted to JSU.

Apply for JSU scholarships using the online application: JSU Scholarship Application.
Be sure to list the name of each scholarship for which you wish to be considered.

Apply for JSU Leadership Scholarship. The paper application is required, please submit the entire application to include the front page: JSU Leadership Application. A 500 word essay on one of the following topics should be submitted with the Leadership Application:
1. What is the most valuable characteristic a leader should posses and why?
2. What leadership role in high school do you feel best prepared you to be a leader in college and why?

Apply for JSU Valedictorian Scholarship. The paper application is required: JSU Valedictorian Application.

To qualify for the Elite Honors Scholarship, Elite Scholarship, Faculty Scholarship, Gamecock Scholarship or Gem of the Hills scholarship, students must meet the following criteria: Alabama resident or a resident of one of the following Georgia counties: Bartow, Carroll, Chattooga, Coweta, Douglas, Floyd, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk (Documentation may be required), 2013 Alabama high school graduate or 2013 Georgia high school graduate from one of the previously listed counties, entering freshman, unconditionally accepted and U.S. citizen. Official test scores must be on file at JSU prior to the deadline. Applicants for the Elite Honors scholarship must have a high school cumulative 3.5 GPA through the 11th grade. Elite Honors candidates will be contacted and required to submit an essay and resume.

To qualify for the Mimosa Scholarship or Magnolia Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria: Non-Alabama resident (excluding the following Georgia counties: Bartow, Carroll, Chattooga, Coweta, Douglas, Floyd, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk), 2013 high school graduate, entering freshman, unconditionally accepted and U.S. citizen. Official test scores must be on file at JSU prior to the scholarship deadline.

The Valedictorian scholarship application cannot be submitted online.The Valedictorian scholarship must be verified by the applicant's school guidance counselor or principal. Valedictorian scholarship is offered to incoming first-time freshmen who are declared Valedictorian their senior year of high school. Students must meet the following criteria: United States citizen, 2013 Alabama high school graduate, and unconditionally accepted entering freshman. Official high school transcripts and test scores must be on file at JSU prior to the scholarship deadline.

The Leadership scholarship application cannot be submitted online. The application must be verified and signed by the applicant's school guidance counselor or principal. Students must meet the following criteria: United States citizen, 2013 high school graduate, and unconditionally accepted entering freshman. A high school transcript, resume, photograph, 500-word essay, and letter of recommendation must be submitted with the Leadership scholarship application. All documents and ACT/SAT test scores must be on file prior to the scholarship deadline.

Leadership scholarships will be a cumulative academic GPA calculation taken through student's 9th - 11th grade years. High school transcripts and test scores must be submitted with the application prior to the scholarship deadline.

The ACT scores listed are composite scores. The SAT scores listed are critical reading and math scores combined.

All tuition scholarships are at the in-state rate. Full tuition is up to 16 hours per semester, and each hour is computed at the traditional class room tuition fee. One year scholarships are awarded for the incoming Fall and Spring semesters. Unused hours will not be carried forward to any other semesters. Scholarships designated for tuition fees can not be used for any other expenses.

University Housing is valued at the Double Occupancy Housing rate at the University Housing office. Scholarships designated for housing fees can not be used for any other expenses. Scholarships offering housing and meal plans are a package which can not be separated.

Meal plans are valued at the On Campus Resident Program and are available at the University Dining Hall. Scholarships designated for meal plans can not be used for any other expenses. Scholarships offering housing and meal plans are a package which can not be separated.

Book scholarships are valued at $450.00 per semester and are available at the University Book Store. Scholarships designated for books can not be used for any other expenses.

Online Application

Jacksonville State University offers various scholarships for entering freshmen, as well as for Transfer Students and those already enrolled. Most scholarships are based on the applicant's academic or extracurricular record, while some are based on demonstrated financial need. Those requesting scholarships based on need should also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The quickest way to apply is online using FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.gov. Consult our Scholarship Listing for information pertaining to individual requirements of scholarships offered. Scholarship offers are subject to applicant being unconditionally admitted to the University prior to deadline.

The Valedictorian and Leadership scholarship requires a paper application. The online application will not be a substitute for the paper application.
