Basics of Computing

Need some refreshers on the basics in computers? Take
a look at the resources provided below for some self-assessment, glossary
review, and tutorials.

Basic Desktop
Applications
|
|
The most common applications that are used by faculty
on JSU's campus are MS Office software products. Several on campus and
off campus resources are available to you for learning more about these
software programs. Always check the Help menu in the individual
program for available tutorials, as well.

Webpage Design
|
|
Many faculty have begun creating webpages for posting
their vitae or research interests, as well as syllabi for courses they
frequently teach. Most course content is now posted on JSU's Course
Management System, Blackboard, which does not require knowledge of
webpage creation. However, documents created outside of Blackboard
typically require some knowledge of webpage design.

|
Internet & Email
|
|
Many classes have begun to utilize the power of the
Internet as a research tool. Technology questions arise that may be
difficult to answer without knowledge of browsers, downloading, and more.
Additionally, providing students with information that allows them to
accurately assess the validity of Internet research materials may be
beneficial during research projects.
