Phi Eta Sigma is the third most senior member of the Association of College Honor Societies. The three Greek words appearing on the crest form the motto: "Knowledge is Power." This honor society was formed to recognize the academic excellence of freshmen college students. Jacksonville State University's chapter was chartered in 1980.

The English Language Institute is proud to recognize two of our alumni who achieved academic excellence and were inducted into Jacksonville State University's chapter for 2009-2010. They are Yuye Cao and Yue Jao Li. Both are now eligible to apply for annual scholarships awarded by the national organization of Phi Eta Sigma.

President William A. Meehan congratulates ELI alumni, Yuye Cao and Yue Jao Li, at the 2010 induction ceremony. This ceremony holds special significance as Dr. Meehan is also a Phi Eta Sigma.

Yuye Cao and Yue Jao Li sport their Phi Eta Sigma cords in front of the society's crest. Congratulations to Yuye Cao for being selected as JSU's candidate for the national scholarship to be awarded in the fall. Good luck!
