Elementary Education Alternative A Program

The Elementary Education K-6 Alternative A Program is designed for you if you want to teach in an elementary classroom and you have a previous degree in an academic discipline other than education. Eligibility for the Alternative-A Program includes a 2.75 GPA in the previously earned undergraduate degree, completion of ED 300, advisement in the Teacher Education Services Center, and satisfaction of any undergraduate deficiencies as required by the ALSDE code. 

  1. A combination of face-to-face, online, and hybrid graduate level courses in elementary teaching methods
  2. Clinical Experiences in a variety of elementary education settings 
  3. Specialty courses include assessment, 21st century teaching, and classroom management 

You can complete the Elementary Education Alternative A Program and be eligible for an Alabama Teacher Class A Certification in K-6 Elementary Education. For information on the Elementary Education Alternative A Program, please email Dr. Gena Thornburg
