John B. Hammett II, PhD | Dean
Dr. Hammett holds a BSE degree in Health and Physical Education and a MSE in Physical Education from JSU. He earned a Ph.D. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Hammett taught health, physical education, and English at Shelby County High School in Columbiana, AL, and at John Shaw High School in Mobile, AL. His initial collegiate appointment was at the University of South Carolina at Aiken where he taught health and physical education courses, and created a comprehensive, university-based wellness program. Dr. Hammett returned to JSU in 1989, where he assumed the task of developing JSU’s university wellness. In 2001, he assumed the duties of department head for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. In 2003, he was appointed associate dean of the college. On October 1, 2008, Dr. Hammett was named dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies.
Jordan M. Barkley, PhD | Associate Dean
Dr. Barkley holds a BSE degree in English and History Education, and a Masters Degree in Reading Education from Auburn University. He also earned a Ph.D. in Reading Education along with certification as a K-12 administrator from Auburn University in 2005. Before joining the faculty at JSU, Dr. Barkley taught seventh grade English and history at Opelika Middle School, where he also chaired the English Department. Dr. Barkley has served as a faculty member, a Gamecock Orientation Advisor, and the department head for Secondary Education. He now serves as the NCATE Coordinator and Associate Dean for the College of Education & Professional Studies.
