The JSU Communication Department is dedicated to providing a high quality of education within a public institution that serves the best interest(s) of students. The department embraces a "JSU 5+7" philosophy through its teaching objectives, 5 core values and 7 core competencies currently highlighted within the courses offered.
The department is part of the College of Education and Professional Studies, and focuses on hands-on professional training. The department is accredited by The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and is one of three programs in Alabama with this distinction. Each lecture classroom has a projection system that has AppleTV and HD compatibility, along with a computer lab with Smartboard technology.
Graduates routinely embark on rewarding and prosperous careers in advertising, journalism (both digital and print), public relations, radio and television (broadcast) journalism, and web design or site maintenance.
