The Communication Department at Jacksonville State University, housed in Self Hall is dedicated to providing a high quality of education within a public institution that serves the best interests of our students. The department adheres to the "JSU 4+7" - 4 values and 7 competencies -philosophy that embraces a commitment toward those teaching goals that are currently highlighted within the courses offered.

The department is part of the College of Education and Professional studies, and focuses on hands-on professional training. The department was awarded accreditation by The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) in May 2008, and isone of three programs in Alabama with this distinction. Our computer lab facilities feature Smart board technology or the equivalent in each classrooms.

Graduates routinely embark on rewarding and prosperous careers in advertising, print journalism (newspapers and magazines), public relations, radio and television (broadcast) journalism, and web design or site maintenance.
