"Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself."
    John Dewey

Welcome to the Department of Secondary Education at Jacksonville State University. Though we are a relatively small department, we are home to ten undergraduate programs for grades 6-12, four undergraduate programs for P-12, seven master's and education specialist programs for grades 6-12, and two P-12 master's level programs. Information for each degree program may be found using the undergraduate and graduate tabs to the left.

Our mission is to prepare professional educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, caring, creative decision makers as life-long teachers and learners in a diverse society through degree programs grounded in educational research, theory, and best practices, including pedagogy rich with content knowledge, integrated technologies, and opportunities for reflection.

Should you need information not found within our web pages, feel free to contact Mrs. Diana Battles, departmental secretary. And, if we can be of service to you in any way as you endeavor to become or further advance your abilities as a successful teacher, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

    Jordan M. Barkley, Ph.D.
