Laws: Equality Opportunity within Federally-Funded Programs

•  Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a national law that protects qualified individuals from discrimination based on their disability.

•  Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a Federal law that protects persons from discrimination based on their race, color or national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.

•  Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, national origin, sex, and religion.

•  The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits discrimination on the basis of age in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Covering all persons regardless of age participating in or seeking to participate in a federally-funded program.

•  Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from gender-based discrimination in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
