Respondus LockDown Browser The Office of Distance Education is pleased to announce that a campus-wide license for Respondus LockDown Browser™ has been obtained. Respondus LockDown Browser, piloted Spring 2008 and overwhelmingly supported by students and faculty, is a customized browser that increases the security of test delivery in Blackboard. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access an exam, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Once an assessment is started, students are locked into it until it’s submitted for grading. Using the Respondus LockDown Browser along with other security features in Blackboard will help to create a secure testing environment. A customized training guide for instructors is available in the MyJSU DE Faculty Group. After logging into MyJSU, click on “Groups” and then select “DE Faculty Group.” If you need to join the group, click on the “Groups Index” tab from the “My Groups” page, select the “Acad/Stu Affairs” folder, and select “DE Faculty Group.” Once you have access to the group, you will find this training guide and other documents in the “Files” area under “Group Tools.” A customized guide for students and other Blackboard student guides are also available for reference. If students/instructors have problems downloading or installing the Respondus LockDown Browser, immediately contact the Office of Distance Education at (256) 782-8172 or send an e-mail to DLHelp@jsu.edu. In all correspondence, please include your full name, Blackboard username, Course ID (which can be copied from your “My Courses” module), and complete details regarding your question (including area of the course, folder names, item or file names, etc.). If students have problems starting or completing an exam with Respondus LockDown Browser, immediately contact the instructor and then contact the Office of Distance Education at (256) 782-8172 or send an e-mail to DLHelp@jsu.edu. Please note that the Office of Distance Education is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Central Time), Monday through Friday except for official holidays recognized by the University. We hope that faculty/staff will take advantage of this opportunity and will make plans to attend the “Quizzes, Tests, and Surveys” training session to learn more about additional test security features available in Blackboard. |
