Who has an active Blackboard account:

• All students registered for a course on the JSU registration system.
• Students registered for recent past semesters or given special clearance.
• Students pre-registered for upcoming semesters (accounts activated approx. 2 weeks prior to the first day of classes).
• JSU faculty assigned as an instructor on the JSU registration system (Banner), and others meeting certain criteria.
• Most JSU staff.
• Instructors, guests and other users that have received special access accounts (i.e. for workshops, etc.).

Activation Schedule of Blackboard Accounts:

• Student accounts are activated according to the following schedule:
  • For a student who registers and pays tuition prior to the first day of classes according to the Academic Calendar, the account will be active by the first day of classes (or earlier or registered during pre-registration).
  • For a student who registers on the first day of class or after, but by the last day to add classes, the account should be active no later than the second business day after tuition payment has been received.
  • For a student who registers and/or pays tuition after the last day to add classes, your account will be active within approx. one week after the tuition payment has been received.
  • Accounts may be activated before courses are available in Blackboard.  Students may not be able to access courses until the first day of classes, even though they are able to login to the Blackboard system.
  • All registered students are assigned a JSU email address, which must be activated for their Blackboard account to be activated.  (This will happen automatically as part of the process.)
  • Student accounts remain active as long as the student is registered for classes, and for a limited period thereafter.
    
• Faculty/Staff accounts are activated according to the following schedule:
  • Faculty/Staff accounts are activated once all paperwork for employment is completed and has been processed throughout various offices and systems, including the activation of a JSU email address, which is typically the last step in the process.
  • Instructors must be assigned as the instructor of record in the Banner registration system in order to access courses as an instructor.
  • Once activated, the Blackboard account should remain active throughout your employment with JSU.

Note:  Special accounts are activated at the discretion of the Blackboard administrator.  If you are a new instructor, and need access to Blackboard prior to receiving your official account, please use the Blackboard Special Account Request Form to request a special account that can be used until you receive your official account.  Other accounts for non-JSU users, such as those participating in online workshops, are acquired and managed through our office by the instructor of the workshop.
