Achievement Tests PathfinderThe purpose of this pathfinder is to introduce some of the resources available in the Houston Cole Library on ACHIEVEMENT TESTS. The various types of library materials useful in research are described along with some examples of each type. This pathfinder is NOT a comprehensive listing of sources, but is intended to be a starting point from which patrons can begin their research according to their specific needs. BASIC INTRODUCTION OR OVERVIEW MATERIAL can be found in: SUBJECT HEADINGS can be identified by using the Library of Congress Subject Headings located at the Information Desk on each floor. Books on ACHIEVEMENT TESTS can be located in the Library Catalog by entering a subject search. Books can be located in the Library Catalog by clicking on "Author/Title/Subject" search type. Then click on the "Subject" radio button. Last, type in your subject and press the enter key. Suggested subject headings for this topic are: Education Tests and Measurements, Competency Based Educational Tests, Achievement Tests Related headings include: Test Bias, Grading and Marking Students, Objective Tests To browse the book stacks use: Library of Congress call numbers : LB3051 on the 5th floor. REFERENCE TOOLS BIBLIOGRAPHIES (list of books, periodical articles, and/or other
materials by subject or by author). DIRECTORIES (contain names, addresses, and telephone numbers of persons,
organizations, and
institutions). ALMANACS OR STATISTICAL SOURCES (provide miscellaneous bits of facts
and data). HANDBOOKS AND MANUALS (cover broad subjects in a brief, concise manner
and may include odd bits of information about a variety of topics (They
may also be referred to as a compendium). GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS are primarily annual reports, studies, and statistics from the various departments and agencies of the government. They are cataloged and shelved like other books and microforms. (There is no separate collection of government publications in this library). ELECTRONIC DATABASES The Mental Measurements Yearbook Database contains data from Yearbooks 9 through 15. This database, like the print version of The Mental Measurements Yearbook contains "fulltext information about and reviews of all English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas. For each test, the database provides the name of the test, author, publication information, scoring information, and the number of the Mental Measurements Yearbook in which the test was described originally. The full text for each record includes an overview of the test, a description of the test materials and time needed, and one or more reviews of the test." WebSPIRS Database Guide. Access the Mental Measurements Yearbook Database from our selection of Electronic Databases for Education. JOURNALS JOURNALS held by the library can be identified by consulting the Library Catalog by searching under the journal name. Journal Titles on ACHIEVEMENT TESTS can be located in the Library Catalog by clicking on "Author/Title/Subject" search type. Then click on the "Journal Title" radio button. Last, type in your journal title and press the enter key. Use these Electronic Databases for Education to locate JOURNAL ARTICLES and other papers on achievement tests : Education Abstracts Online, EBSCOhost's Education Databases, ERIC.
