Message from the Director of Public
Safety
To accomplish our mission of "providing
a safe
and secure campus environment that is
conducive to the education, research,
employment and daily activities of our campus
community," we ask that everyone on campus
work with us to help solve problems. All of our
members are committed to serve the campus
community and fulfill our mission by being
technically proficient and always acting in good
faith. In return, we need community
involvement to accomplish our community
policing mission through proactive efforts
designed to address issues before they become
police concerns.
The Jacksonville State University Police
Department is a CALEA (Commission on
Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies),
certified police agency that provides full-time
law enforcement and security services to the
Jacksonville State University campus
community. Our sworn police officers are state
certified and have the same arrest powers as
any other sworn police officer in the State of
Alabama. Our primary jurisdiction is the main
campus of the university. However, we are also
responsible for several outlying areas. In
accordance with the Code of Alabama, Title
16, Section 16-52-12, “the jurisdiction and
authority of the officers (UPD) shall be
coextensive with the corporate limits of the
municipality”.
