Experience

  • Direct practice involving investigations of child abuse and neglect reports; case management of children in foster care; supervision of adoptions; foster care resources; adoptions; and resource development.
  • Investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and case management of children in foster care included working with law enforcement; the District Attorney’s office; mental health therapists; schools and other professionals in the community involved in the process. Assessment and interviewing were key skills used on a daily basis to provide services to children and families.
  • Resource development including negotiations for the creation of new services; the restructuring of existing services to meet client need; and community organization to identify and develop services to address needs of the community outside of DHR use.  Provided training to the staff in the county as well as regionally.
  • While employed with DHR, served on several committees and task forces. These include groups to change or develop polices and procedures for statewide practice; the development of new risk assessment forms for child welfare services; the development of training for line staff; and a statewide resource development task force that offered consultation to other counties.
  • Provided consultation and training to 5 other states regarding the current child welfare system.  Also involved in implementing new program designed to meet identified needs.
