Mr. Powe's primary focus for his MSW was in community development and casework.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Mr. Powe has acquired over 27 years of post-masters experience as a professional social worker, which includes 17 years in an administrative capacity. His experience includes individual, family, group, and marital counseling, supervision, program development, administration, training, and consultation.
He served as a social worker for United Charities of Chicago, a family services agency from 1971 to 1975.
He was Director of Professional Services and Director of Residential Treatment Programs for Methodist Youth Services in Chicago, IL from 1975 to 1986. He was responsible for agency-wide professional service programs, staff development, recruitment, and coordinating the clinical program.
He served as Clinical Director for Centers for New Horizons in Chicago, IL from 1986-88. He was responsible for staff supervision and coordinating the treatment program for a day school program for emotionally disturbed and behavior disordered children. He became Program Director of Centers for New Horizons, Day School Program in 1988 for a period of one year.
He served as Project Director for Chicago Commons Family Preservation Programs from 1989 to 1993. In 1993 he was promoted to Assistant Director of Child Welfare.
He has served as a trainer for Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Chicago, Illinois, and a lecturer at Malcolm X College, Aurora University, and Chicago State University. He also served as a consultant to social service agencies and joined RSP and Associates Consultant Firm as a partner in 1991 and remained until 1994.
