Lauren Moon was selected Miss Jacksonville State University 2008 on January 11, 2008. The 21-year-old Calera native is majoring in History. Lauren is a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, History Club and the Stars Committee for the Alabama Higher Education Partnership.

Her community service platform promotes "Mental Health Awareness" and the Children's Miracle Network. Lauren's parents are Lynn and Denise Moon. Lauren performed the classical vocal, 'O Mio Babbino Caro' by Giacomo Puccini and was the overall talent winner during the pageant. She will spend her year as Miss JSU as an ambassador for the university as she prepares to compete in the 2008 Miss Alabama pageant in June 2008.

Miss JSU is a closed, local preliminary franchise of the Miss Alabama Pageant, Inc. within the Miss America organization. The Miss America Organization is the world's largest competitive scholarship program for young women and one of the nation's leading achievement programs. The Miss America Organization has awarded more than $200 million in cash scholarships since the scholarship program began and makes available cash and in-kind scholarships at the local, state, and national levels. Each year, tens of thousands of Miss America volunteers generate more than 500,000 hours of service to over 12,000 community service projects making Miss America one of the strongest service organizations in the country. Participation in the Miss America Program empowers young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to use their talents and intelligence to advance a national platform dedicated to making a difference in the lives of America's youth.
