Dr. Shannon Roberston

Assistant Professor Fall 2009

Greetings:

I am very honored and excited to be joining the faculty of the psychology department at Jacksonville State University this fall.  I can think of no better place to begin my career as an educator and to grow as a researcher.

My pedagogical interests primarily lie in teaching physiological psychology, cognitive psychology, social gerontology, and the psychology of aging.  I also have a keen interest in teaching the courses that form the foundation of psychological science, such as research methods and statistics.

Regarding research, I have wide-ranging interests in the study of behavior, but my research to date has focused on understanding how thought processes change with age.  In particular, I have spent much of my time investigating the possibility that age-related changes in the structure and function of the brain may lead to age differences in the efficiency and consistency of information processing.  Recently, I have become interested in examining whether individual differences in various aspects of cognition predict the economic decisions people make, and whether this relationship is different for younger and older adults.

I am certain that my pedagogical endeavors and research ambitions will add diversity to a unique department, diversity that will broaden the strengths of future JSU graduates and hopefully foster even greater student interest in what is already an outstanding program.
