History and Systems of Psychology

Fall 2006

This course is typically offered in fall semester. The purpose of this course is to help students understand that the questions that are asked in psychology have been asked since antiquity. The only thing "new" in psychology is the methodology we use to investigate these questions. We trace the history of these questions through the Ancient Greeks, Romans, early Christian and Muslim philosophers, the Renaissance, modern schools of philosophy, and early schools of psychology. This course is strongly recommended for students who plan on continuing their education through the PhD since many PhD programs require or recommend it for admission to their program.
