Mason Hall HVAC Installation work in Progress

Mason Hall has been the scene of feverish activity as workmen labor overtime to install a completely new heating/cooling air ventilation (HVAC) system throughout the entire building during the summer months. As well as this system, the work also includes replacement of all windows in the building. This will give Mason Hall a new exterior look as well as increasing energy efficiency for the building.

The old HVAC system was over 40 years old, was loud and did not always meet comfort needs, especially during those times of the year that included cool nights and warm days. Installing the new system has involved major electrical work to support the new system. A new transformer and power upgrade was required as well wring for power and controls into each studio. Numerous penetrations of the concrete floor and building exteriors required extensive drilling. Miles of conduit were installed to connect new rooftop units with all portions of the building.

New storage units are being installed in the Performance Center to replace the plywood areas we have currently been utilizing. In addition new sound attenuating materials will be installed in the Band Room for a more pleasing appearance and greater sound control.

Above are pictures of various scenes in the building. They show something of the extent of the work and the resulting chaos. But the contractors have been highly efficient and expect to have all of the work completed by early August. This gives time for us to prepare the building for full use by the time students return on 24 August and the start of classes two days later.
