“My writing and reading skills have improved
tremendously!”….”I gained many friends during my experience in ExSEL !”…. “I
learned how to work with a team in ExSEL.”….”I improved my ACT score after I
succeeded in ExSEL!”….”I owe so much to my ExSEL staff: they have taught me how
to think and think fast!”

I Will:
- Strengthen basic skills in reading, writing,
mathematics, studying, and reasoning through various learning channels.
- Establish realistic academic and
vocational goals.
- Develop personal life skills, such as: time
management, decision-making, social skills, and responsibility.
- Meet faculty mentors, counselors, and peer
counselors who will assist me throughout the summer and my college career.
- Develop computer skills, accuracy, and speed.
- Develop appropriate attitudes and behaviors
required to be successful at JSU.
Successful completion in the ExSEL program (“C” or
better in all courses) will enable me to do the following:
- Enroll as a conditionally admitted (CA) student
for the fall semester.
- Pre-register for skills building courses
prescribed by the ExSEL team.
- Meet with faculty and peer advisors throughout
the fall semester through LS 104, Academic Success Skills, to assist in the
transition from ExSEL to college.
