Personal Statement

I am a cartographer and economic geographer by training with interests in map design and use, remote sensing of the urban/rural environment, and the geography and issues of the Middle East.

  1. Most Recent Achievements:


  2.     •  Faculty Advisor for the JSU Model Arab League Club. Escorted student debate teams to the Southeast Model Arab League sessions for 15 years.

  3.     •  Fulbright Professor at the University of Aleppo, Syria, September - December 2000; teaching courses in geographic information systems.

  4.     •  Fulbright Professor at the University of Turku and Abo Akademi, Turku, Finland, February - May 1993; Taught two graduate level courses in Computer Cartography and Geographical Information Systems

  6.     •  City of Anniston LUCA and CDBG project (census street block address ranges update and housing survey of low income houses repair conditions, Summer 2008 (Report: "Community Development Needs Survey for the City of Anniston, August 2008")

  7.     •  Renewed AlabamaView Grant,$4,500.00 grant to expand the AlabamaView Educational Remote Sensing Website and organize a two hour workshop for Alabama High School Teacher in the summer of 2006.

  8.     •  AlabamaView Grant; Educational Remote Sensing Web Site and Workship for Alabama High School Teachers. May –June 2005. $5,500
