JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS FOR 2008-2009

February 1, 2008, is the absolute deadline to apply for 2008-2009 scholarships.  


* To qualify for the Elite Scholars, Faculty Scholars, Gamecock Scholars or Gem of the Hills scholarships, students must meet the following criteria: Alabama resident, Alabama high school graduate, entering freshman, and U.S. citizen.

** To qualify for the Mimosa Scholars or Honors Scholars scholarship, students must meet the following criteria: Non-Alabama resident, high school graduate, entering freshman, and U.S. citizen.

-The GPA for Elite Scholars, Faculty Scholars, Gamecock Scholars, Gem of the Hills, Mimosa Scholars, Honors Scholars and Leadership scholarships will be an academic GPA calculated based on English, social sciences, math, and science courses taken through student’s 9th - 11th grade years. High school transcripts and test scores must be on file at JSU or submitted with the application prior to the scholarship deadline. The ACT scores listed are composite scores. The SAT scores listed are critical reading and math scores combined.

- The Leadership scholarship application cannot be submitted online. The application must be verified and signed by the school guidance counselor or principal. An official high school transcript, resume, and ACT/SAT scores must be submitted with the Leadership scholarship application. Students must meet the following criteria: Alabama or non-Alabama resident, high school graduate, entering freshman, and U.S. citizen.

Remember: February 1, 2008, is the deadline to apply, and you must be admitted to JSU.

Students may qualify for more than one institutionally funded award. Should this occur, the student would be allowed to select any combination of awards that would be most beneficial to the student. Under no circumstances will multiple institutional awards result in a cash payment to the student.

Institutional award limits cannot exceed Tuition-In-state or Out-of-State (Up to 16 hrs.); University Housing (Double Occupancy Only); Board (Up to Carte Blanche Plan): Books (Up to $450 Purchased through the University Bookstore).

GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Selection of scholarship recipients at JSU is highly competitive. Last year 2700 applications were received for approximately 338 scholarships. Students may apply for all scholarships, except Leadership, via the Internet at http://www.jsu.edu/depart/finaid/scholarship/scholar.html. Supporting documentation should be mailed (if required). Students applying for Leadership Scholarships must use the paper application and follow the instructions. The Scholarship Committee will convene in early April to make selection of recipients for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students will receive notification of the status of their application around May 1.
