Little River Canyon Field School
A Project of Jacksonville State University's
Environmental Policy & Information Center

Early concept design for Little River Canyon Field School near Little River Falls
along Highway 35 east of Fort Payne, Alabama.
A New Home
The year 2004 promises to bring many changes to the LIttle River Canyon Field School.   Last fall JSU purchased an additional 40 acres to add to the 10 acres that were previously donated by Alabama Power.  These 50 acres will become the new home for the Little River Canyon Field School.  The building will house displays and visitor information on the cultural and natural resources of the LIttle River Canyon area, meeting rooms, an auditiorium and office's for both JSU's Fieldschool staff and for the LIttle River Canyon National Park staff.

Many of you may have seen the sign along Highway 35 near Little River Falls. To the casual passerby the site doesn't appear to have changed, but the project is moving forward.  The archeological survey has been completed, as have the wetland and endangered species surveys. Initial drawings of the building and the site plan are being reviewed and designs are being developed for the exhibits.

This project will not only provide a new home for the Field School, it will provide a focal point for visitors to our area.
