Susan Herport Methvin
 B.A. (1968), Saint Francis College; M.F.A. (1985), Warren Wilson College.
Ms. Methvin taught core courses and also teaches the Creative Writing classes in Fiction and Poetry.
At the time of her retirement, she was working on the World War I Diary of PFC Chester Borland of Ohio and will present a workshop on this diary as a found poem at the Arts Based Educational Research annual conference in Austin, Texas on November 13th, 2000.
Her poem, "Breast Imaging," is part of the exhibit, Art/Rage/Us, a collection of art about breast cancer. The exhibit has appeared in San Francisco and Los Angeles and will soon appear in Hong Kong. Ms. Methvin has co-authored with William Miller and George Richards "The Trees Are Mended." She has had poems published in Southern Poetry Review, The Malahat Review, Poetry Northwest, Tar River Poetry, and other journals. Her poem, "Hazel Lila Boyle 1888-1949" was published in the on-line journal, Crania: A Literary Arts Magazine (Issue 9). Original URL:

"Love That Man Jesus" and "Christ Riding" appear in the anthology Sweet Jesus: Poems About the Ultimate Icon. (Los Angeles: Anthology Press, 2002)

"Mothering Self" appears in We'Moon '03: Gaia Rythms For Women, a women's almanac.

"Breath" has been awarded Second Place by Duke University Medical Center Cultural Services in its annual contest. The new issue of They Wrote Us A Poem which contains poems by staff, patients and family of DUMC was scheduled to be published in the Summer of 2003.

"CT Scan in July" and "Privet" are on display at DUMC North, 9th floor oncology across from one by Walt Whitman. Langston Hughes, Alice Walker, Mary Oliver and many other well-known poets are included in the hospital wide exhibit.
