GPA CALCULATION
College of Education and Professional Studies' GPA CalculationThe College of Education and Professional Studies uses an all hours attempted model to calculate GPA for admission in to the teacher education program, admission in to the internship semester, recommendation for graduation, and recommendation for certification. The overall GPA, professional studies GPA, and the teaching field GPA must be 2.50/4.0.
The College of Education and Professional Studies GPA can be found on the DARS printout in the "Admission to Education Section" and at the bottom of a ST23 printout. The GPA found at the top of both printouts should not be used for advisement because it is not calculated on the all hours attempted model. The JSU replacement grading policy is not applicable to the teacher education program.
HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR GPA
The GPA is calculated using the following formula:
GPA = Quality Points divided by Hours Attempted
Quality Points are calculated using the following formula:
Quality Points = Course Grade Conversion points times Hours Attempted
The course grade is converted based on the following table:
| Grade | Course Grade Conversion |
| A | 4 points |
| B | 3 points |
| C | 2 points |
| D | 1 point |
| F or I | No points |
For example, a student earns an A in a three hour course, a C in a four hour course, and a F in a two hour course the overall GPA would be :
(1) Quality Points = (4 x 3) + (2 x 4) + (0 x 2)= 20
(2) GPA = 20/9 = 2.22 *
* GPA is not rounded and is truncated to two places past the decimal for reporting purposes
THE GPA WIZARD this wizard uses a software program to make this calculation.
