Instructional Services Unit --- Multimedia Instructional Laboratories

 

 

The Multimedia Instructional Laboratories are located in Ramona Wood Hall. The main instructional laboratory is located in 210 RWH. The Mac Lab is in 105 RWH. The newest lab is 309 RWH. All rooms are the meeting places for computer studies an classes in the College of Education and Professional Studies.  

History


The College has had a computer laboratory since 1980. The first instructional laboratory contained 26 Apple II. Part of the instruction involved production of educational materials. The Lab was a copy site for the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC) and the Alabama Educational Computing Research and Development Network as late as 1991.

The Technology Scholarship Program for Alabama Teachers (TSPAT) in 1992 required participating colleges and universities to provide laboratories equipped with the computers and peripherals that would prepare teachers to utilize the new form of computer technology. Room 210 RWH became The Multimedia Instructional Laboratory (MIL) was equipped to meet the TSPAT requirements. To meet tSPAT requirements the lab was half Wintel and Half Macintosh computers..

EQUIPMENT


Currently the MIL room 210 RWH has 24 PC's for students and one instructor workstation. All the computers are Dell Optiplex computers with Windows Xp OS.  For printing purposes, the computers share a two common HP Laserjet 2100 printers made available through Uniprint. For capturing images, an HP ScanJet Scanner, Sony Mavica FD7 digital camera, and a Sony DCR-TRV 900 camcorder were purchased. There is a Pioneer Laser Disk 2400 player and Philips 35" monitor. The instructor station is connected to a Smart Board. Each computer has a common set of software loaded. Computers have Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft FrontPage 2003, Adobe Creative Suite 2, HyperStudio, and Easy Grade Pro.Every effort is made to have the most current version. 

Room 104 RWH  has nine Mac computers. Five are eMacs, the others are four new I Macs All have Mac OS X (10.2.8 or higher). A HP 4 Printer is available in this room through Uniprint.  The computers have a current version of Microsoft Office. A collection of educational CD's is available for in lab use.

Room 309 RWH has 30 student stations and one Instructor Station. The Instructor uses a Smart Symposium to input to a screen. The room also has a DVD/VCR combo player. The computers ha

HOURS OF OPERATION

The MIL is open to all JSU students when it is not in use for a class, otherwise the general hours of operation are as follows:

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Fridays   8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Closed Saturday and Sunday
