The Instructional Services Unit (ISU) provides services to the institution and community through three service divisions. The purpose of the Instructional Services Unit (ISU) is to provide at JSU’s main campus academic an technological resources to public school students, pre-service teachers, in-field teachers, Jacksonville State University faculty and students. The ISU provides a site for Clinical Level II, (tutoring) and media resources and is responsible for the computer laboratories in Ramona Wood Hall and Smart classrooms in the College (Mason Hall, Pete Mathews Coliseum and Self Hall). The Instructional Services Unit has been recognized by the Clinical Experiences program and by Teacher Education accrediting agencies as a supporting pillar for practicums and for the curriculum offered in the College of Education and Professional Studies. · Learning Resource Center The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is designed to assist University faculty and students as well as teachers in the public schools. The Center has a large collection of books and classroom materials. The LRC offers educators an opportunity to improve instruction through the effective use of audiovisual media, newly developed educational materials, and computer technology. The Center has over 500 dies for cutting shapes and letters. Two Laminators are available to preserve paper projects. The LRC also makes hardware and software available for the production of graphic materials for classroom use. Please visit http://lrc.jsu.edu to conduct a search using Athena for materials. · Teaching/Learning Center The mission of the Teaching/Learning Center (T/LC) is to provide teacher candidates opportunities for hands-on, in-house, supervised practice of instructional strategies learned in the classroom. The Clinical Level II practicum serves Secondary Education, Family and Consumer Sciences and Elementary Education programs. The need to blend theory with practice in the field of education is recognized by the State Department that requires one hour of practicum for each hour in the classroom. Students in beginning education courses apply textbook strategies during lab sessions with area school children in the Teaching/Learning Center. Over 100,000 hours of free tutorial service to the community has been provided. The T/LC has won both the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educator’s Innovation in Education Award and the Christa McAuliffe Showcase of Excellence Award presented by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. · Multimedia Instructional Laboratories The purpose of the MIL is to provide tools to train educators in the use of computer software and hardware. The Laboratories are in rooms 104, 210, and 309 in Ramona Wood Hall. · Smart Classrooms Every classroom in Ramona Wood Hall is technology enriched. The classrooms have interactive whiteboards, DVD/VCR Combo players, LCD projectors and in place computers. Room 309 has the additional capability for student keypad input. Rooms 218, 219 and 108 have document projectors. Five HPER classrooms in Pete Mathews Coliseum. Two Smart classrooms in FCS are located in Mason Hall. One Smart Classroom is located in Self Hall.
