E. C. Wilson
Outstanding HPER Male Alumna
2005 - 2006

 

 

E. C. “Baldy” Wilson graduated from JSU in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and received his master's in 1971. While attending JSU, he was a three-year letterman in football and a one-year letterman in basketball. Recently he was inducted into JSU's Gamecock Hall of Fame.

During his career, Wilson coached the Glencoe High School football and basketball teams. Glencoe High honored Wilson in 2004 by naming its football stadium the Wilson/Darnell Stadium. From 1976-1984, Wilson served as the Etowah County superintendent of education.

Wilson is a member of the JSU alumni board of directors, president of the County Coaches Association, president of the Etowah Retired Teachers Association, serves on the Selective Service Board, and has been a board member of Gamecock Club for 20 years. He presently serves on the board of the J Club at JSU.

Among his many awards are: State All Star Coach, County Coach of the Year, JSU Alumni of the Year, inducted into Patriot’s Hall of Honor, and the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Wilson is a life member of the JSU Alumni Association. He has been married to his wife Mattie for more than 50 years. They have a daughter, Annette Little, and two sons, Dale Wilson and Nathan Wilson, and three grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
