Jerry B. Simmons 

Outstanding Female Alumna of 2007

 

 

 

Jerry graduated from JSU in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science/Physical Education and is presently teaching Physical Education at Weaver Elementary School in Weaver, Alabama. She has been inducted into the 1999 JSU Hall of Fame, awarded Teacher of the Month and the Pilot school for the State of Alabama Grant. For the past two years, she has received the Jump Rope for Heart Grant. 

Her related professional experience includes coaching girls’ gymnastics, volleyball, softball, basketball and track & field. Jerry has sponsored the Flippers and Jumpers since 2002, which is a demo team for the American Heart Association. The team has performed at the ASAHPERD conference the past two years. 

Last year, the team had 28 performances at 14 schools. Jerry also finds the time to volunteer for the American Cancer Society, MS Foundation, Senior Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and PTO committees. Jerry is the proud mother of Leigh Twigg and Tripp Farrell and grandmother of Lainey, Marshall and Hayes.
